Letter from the President - Michael A. JohnsonHBPWF 2011

Like many of us, I have been fortunate to play sports, attend school, build a career, and enjoy prosperity and happiness at work and home. I have enjoyed being involved with Huntington Beach Pop Warner for the past ten years as a coach and for the past three years as a board member. It has been rewarding to work with so many great children and parents over the years and I have learned that football and cheer are important activities to prepare our children for their future. Our children face a different and more challenging world than the one we faced when we were young. As I look ahead to the lives our children will have, I am concerned they will not have the tools they need to face the many different challenges ahead of them. That is why Football & Cheer are such important activities. Football & Cheer teach the discipline, passion, commitment and self-control that our children will need to get ahead and to achieve the prosperity we want for them.

Football and Cheer are sports that embody all four of these important traits. Football, Cheer, and life are filled with such a high level of emotion that without these four important qualities a person/player cannot be successful on the field or in every-day life.

Discipline is a huge part, if not the most important part, of sports. A player must learn discipline before they can be coached. If one player is not on-board with the program he or she can disrupt the team.

Passion is something a person needs to overcome adversity. Passion gives a person the desire to study, learn, and work harder than others.

Commitment begins with parents as their children take on new challenges.  As role models, parents need to teach their children to finish what they start. Commitment involves hard work and sacrifice in order to be the best person or team player a child can be.  Teaching commitment at an early age can help a child beyond sports and translate to all life-long endeavors.

Self-control is the art of using all three of these elements to focus ourselves. As we become focused, we become confident and open to learn. When we are able to learn, we are able to improve and perform at the highest level.

It is my goal to provide a safe and positive place for our children to grow and become strong, confident young men and women. At HBPWF, we know we are making a positive difference in our children’s lives and futures.
